Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Kevin Doyle has expressed his delighted after completing his first season with the club.

The 26-year-old moved to Molineux in a club record £6.5 million deal from Reading last summer and won the players’ player of the year award.

The Republic of Ireland international scored nine goals in an impressive return to the top-flight and has been pleased with his performances.

“It’s been the longest season for me but the most enjoyable,” he told the Express & Star.

“Joining Wolves and the build-up to that was two or three weeks and that began about this time last year.

“I think it’s been the most satisfying season. We were tipped to be relegated and there was a bit of pressure on me joining Wolves, being the record signing.

“So to play well and live up to that I suppose, having an all-round decent season, I’m pleased.”

Doyle has been linked with a move away from Molineux after impressing on his return to the top-flight, with Arsenal reportedly interest in purchasing the striker in the summer.

“There is always a bit of speculation,” he added.

“It’s good for your confidence but that’s about it. I have no reason to think I will not be at Wolves next season. I have no reason to believe otherwise and I’ll be very happy if I am.

“I have enjoyed my year there so far. I think we’ve done very well and I feel I’ve done well there too. It’s been a good year for me.

“I think everyone at Wolves has had a great season.

“We were favourites for relegation but, in the end, we comfortably survived with three or four games to go and played some good football along the way.

“It’s flattering to be linked with other clubs, it shows how well the club has done this season.”
