Aaron Lennon's hopes of playing at the the World Cup could be over after Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp confessed that he does not know if the winger will play again this season.

Lennon was considered a certainty for England's summer squad, but was struck down with a groin problem at the end of December and has not featured since.

Redknapp revealed on Friday that the former Leeds player had not resumed running after a number of setbacks and he has now confirmed that there is no date set for his return.

Spurs are desperate to welcome Lennon back into their plans in the chase for fourth place in the Premier League, but the outlook does not look good.

"I could not sit here and say for sure if he will play again this season," said Redknapp in The Sun. "There is absolutely no comeback date at all."
