Default San Jose Earthquakes 0-0 Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur opened their pre-season campaign with a disappointing goalless draw with MLS side San Jose Earthquakes at the Buck Shaw Stadium.

Carlo Cudicini was included in the starting line-up for the first time since being injured in a motorbike accident and Harry Redknapp also included youngsters Andros Townsend and Jonathon Obika as well as Robbie Keane, who has featured in friendlies after his loan spell at Celtic.

It was San Jose who started the match the brighter of the two sides and could have gone in front inside three minutes but Bobby Convey scuffed his shot wide.

Spurs responded though and had a goal disallowed after 10 minutes as Gareth Bale’s short corner found Jermaine Jenas and his drilled shot was turned in by Robbie Keane, who was in an offside position.

Spurs again pushed forward soon but youngster Townsend saw his shot fly wide. That was the theme of the first as Keane was twice unable to convert chances into goals.

Meanwhile 'keeper Cudicini had to be alert as he palmed away a 30-yard shot from San Jose’s Corrales, then a 15-yard shot from Glen.

Gareth Bale also saw his free-kick well saved by the San Jose 'keeper but the sides went in level at the break.

The second half saw the introduction of Luka Modric, Niko Kranjcar, and Roman Pavlyuchenko but they failed to turn around Tottenham’s fortunes as Robbie Keane saw his shot deflected over.

Bale gave the Tottenham bench a scare when he went down holding his ankle, but the defender was able to continue.

With the game heading for a draw there was enough time for San Jose's Jasseh to hit the side netting but the game ended in a goalless draw.

Tottenham: Cudicini; Hutton, Kaboul, Walker (Smith 70), Bale; Naughton (Kranjcar 45), Jenas, Huddlestone (Butcher 84), Townsend; Obika (Modric 45), Keane (Mason 77).
