Default Salgado brands Bale a diver

Rovers full-back feels Spurs winger goes down too easily

Michel Salgado admits Gareth Bale is a potential star of the future, but claims the Tottenham ace is a diver.

Blackburn full-back Salgado was given a torrid time by Bale during Spurs' 3-1 win at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

The Spaniard struggled to contain the Welsh winger and was fortunate not to concede a penalty when he appeared to tug the youngster to the ground.

Bale also tumbled under a challenge from Morten Gamst Pedersen later on, but once again saw referee Howard Webb wave away his appeals.

Salgado believes the match officials got the decisions spot on, with the experienced defender of the opinion that Bale hit the deck too easily on both occasions.

"They were not penalties," he said.

"There was contact but he was diving, in my opinion. The referee was really close to the play and he did the right thing.

"The second one was a dive, too. It's part of the job of the referee."
Horrible

While Salgado has been quick to condemn the actions of Bale, he admits the 20-year-old appears to have a bright future ahead of him.

"Bale is a great player but I was a little stupid because I changed my defensive position in the first half and it was very difficult for me," he added.

"At my age, it's difficult for me to chase and it was a horrible time for me, but I changed everything in the second half. But he's a great footballer.

"Bale is like Vicente from Valencia. He was a player who drove forward with the ball.

"He is a good player, with a good future and he's playing for a top team so he has a chance to be a very good player in the future."
