Paraguay midfielder Cristian Riveros is close to agreeing a move to Sunderland, according to the player's agent.

Riveros currently plies his trade for Mexican club Cruz Azul, but is reportedly catching the eye of several Premier League clubs.

It appears that the Stadium of Light is Riveros’ most likely destination, however, with a deal reportedly almost complete.

"It's only a matter of resolving a few details and then Cristian will be able to sign his contract with Sunderland, tying him to the club from next season," Riveros' agent, Jose Maria Gonzales, told Ultima Hora.

Such comments seem to have extinguished Cruz Azul’s hopes of persuading the 27-year-old to commit his future to the Mexican club, as they have been in contract talks with the player for over a year.

Should the proposed move materialise, Riveros will join fellow Paraguayan Paulo da Silva at the Stadium of Light.
