Begovic makes his first start in Stoke Reserves’ comfortable win
Tony Pulis was in the stands at the Weaver Stadium last night as Stoke Reserves came out 4-0 victors against cash-strapped Portsmouth.
Pulis watched number of his star players take to the field as the Potters put out a strong side.
First team players Amdy Faye, Andy Wilkinson and Danny Pugh were on show along with ex-Pompy goalkeeper Asmir Begovic who was playing his first game for the club.
The two sides met last week and the game finished one a-piece but Stoke were just too good this time round.
The home side went 1-0 up after just nine minutes when Andy Nicholls finished from close range.
The second half proved to be much more profitable for the Reserves as their lead was doubled just after the hour mark. Louis Moult, who recently signed a two-year professional contract with the club, was quickest to pounce when the ball fell kindly to him in the area. Matthew Lund then got in on the act, adding two last goals to cap off an impressive display by the versatile midfielder.
The Reserves, who are currently second to bottom in the Premier Reserves League, take on bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers next Tuesday night – in the hope of picking up three points to bolster their chances of a mid-table finish.
