ormer Italy and Juventus boss Trapattoni has been linked with an advisory position at the Scottish club, with Celtic set to make an announcement over their managerial opening.

Neil Lennon is the hot favourite to take up the role after guiding the club to eight back-to-back Scottish Premier League wins following Tony Mowbray's dismissal in March.

However, Lennon is lacking managerial experience, which could prompt the Parkhead club to appoint a more experienced director of football as a solution.

But 71-year-old Trapattoni insists he is not the man for that post, and that he is committed to leading the Republic to Euro 2012.

"It was not the Celtic chairman, but someone close to him, close to the club, a former player, who approached me three to four months ago and asked would I be interested in a position," said Trapattoni, who also turned down an approach from Juve earlier this year.

"But I say no, I am with Ireland. I also had two or three teams ask me in Italy, and two English teams.

"I told them all the same answer - that I am with Ireland."

Reports on Sunday suggested Lennon, who has been assisted by former Hoops colleague Johann Mjallby so far, was against having an unfamiliar aide.

But the former Celtic captain seemed open to the idea on Thursday when he said: "If I do get the job, maybe I would like an older head to bounce ideas off. It is a possibility if the outcome is positive."
