Default Magpies boss rules out selling the striker after link with Chelsea

Newcastle United striker Andrew Carroll will stay at St James' Park next season, as long as boss Chris Hughton has his way.

The 21-year-old striker scored 17 goals in 33 starts in Championship last season, which has resulted in interest from various Premier League clubs, reportedly including champions Chelsea.

According to Hughton, however, there has been no contact from the west London club.

"I can say 100 per cent that I have not heard anything from Chelsea, to me that is just speculation," the manager told The Chronicle.

"We've got no intention of seeing Andy Carroll leave Newcastle United. The reasons for that are he has the right profile, he's a young player and he's got a big future here with us."

Rangers striker Kris Boyd is a touted transfer targets for Newcastle, and while Hughton refused to completely rule out a move for the player he stated there was no truth to the link at this time.

"Kris Boyd is a good player, but I can categorically say that there have been no talks at this stage," Hughton added.

"You never want to say 100 per cent no, but it's a non-starter at this moment."

Boyd admitted recently that he is a boyhood Newcastle United fan, so a move for him in the future is a definite possibility.
