Newcastle United tracking Manchester City teenage star Dedryck Boyata - report
Sunderland and Newcastle United are set to battle for the signature of Manchester City teenage defender Dedryck Boyata.
The 19-year-old has made five appearances for City since joining from Belgian side Brussels in 2006.
The Belgian was voted Manchester City’s Young Player of the Year despite only starring for the first team on five occasions.
Newcastle revealed earlier in the week that they were interested in a loan move for the young centre back and now north east rivals Sunderland look set to enquire about the teenager, according to the Sunday Sun.
It is not known whether or not Sunderland also want Boyata on loan or if they are considering signing the highly rated Under-21 international on a permanent deal.
Whatever the deal, it may prove difficult to persuade City boss Roberto Mancini to part with one of his most talented young prospects.
Boyata was part of the City side that won the FA Youth Cup against Chelsea in 2008 before making his first team debut in the FA Cup proper in February this season.
