Owen Hargreaves resumes training
Hargreaves Returns !
Owen Hargreaves will finally resume full first team training within the next few days, after returning from a knee injury which has kept him out of football for nearly one and a half years. Sir Alex was quick to jump on the news, saying he hopes Hargreaves can help United in the title race.
Hargreaves, now 29, underwent double knee surgery to correct a serious tendinitis problem last year. The operation was a success, however it took the former Bayern Munich ace a long time to fully recover. Sir Alex had promised that he would return in January, but following a small scale set-back, Hargreaves only returned in early March.
Hargreaves has already played for the Reserves, and last week's 2-0 win over Burnley was his first football game since September of 2008. After completing the second string match, he was due to play again on Thursday night, also against Burnley, but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Accrington.
And the gaffer now hopes that the England International hopeful can play a part in The Reds' Premier League 'title race', with seven games remaining - "He’s going to be training with the first team and we’ll see where that takes him. We’re keen to get him back involved because he’s an experienced player and will be a valuable addition for us in the run-in, when having a strong, fit squad is vital." said Sir Alex.
Hargreaves won't be able to feature in any of United's remaining Champions League matches, as the club did not register him in the European squad.
