Default Owen looks to future at Man Utd

Michael Owen will miss the rest of the season, but is upbeat over his recovery from injury and his future at Manchester United .

Owen was hoping to launch a late bid for World Cup selection. However, having scored the opening goal for Manchester United in the Carling Cup final, the striker went off with a hamstring injury which will keep him out of action until next season.

The 30 year-old had in any case struggled to secure enough playing time at Manchester United to be seriously considered for selection. Owen had scored 7 goals in 25 games this season.

Owen has suffered more than his fair share of injuries during his career and following an operation to repair the latest damage, the striker was upbeat about both his return and his Old Trafford future.

He said, "I had the operation two weeks ago, so I'm going to be on crutches for six weeks now. I'm not allowed to do anything on it for six weeks, so I am definitely out for the season. I'm just looking to next season now. And I'll be back in a United jersey.

"I've got another year left on my contract here and have the option of a third as well. I've had a great time here and I am really looking forward to being back next season."
