Default Vidal pens new City deal

Manchester City defender Javan Vidal has penned a new one-year contract with the Eastlands club.

The Stretford-born player joined his boyhood heroes as a 16-year-old, spending three seasons with the club's youth academy before joining Grimsby on loan in 2008.

The right-back has also had loan spells with Aberdeen and Derby but now the youngster is hoping to force his way into Roberto Mancini's first XI even though the 21-year-old has yet to make an appearance for the senior team.

Vidal impressed on City's pre-season tour of South Africa last year and he knows the upcoming campaign is the most important of his career.

"My current deal ran out, so I've extended my contract by another year," he told the club's official website.

"My aim now is to impress the manager during pre-season. I'm just looking for a chance to show people what I'm capable of and if the opportunity comes along, I will give it my best shot.

"If I don't break through initially, maybe the club will send me out on loan to get a few more games under my belt and gain more experience. Either way, I'm just happy to have signed a new deal."
