Preston North End 0-3 Everton
Jermaine Beckford recieved a knock and limped off with an ankle problem towards the end of an impressive performance in which he scored a brace.
Everton applied plenty of pressure throughout the game and a deserved flurry of goals arrived in the second half.
The Toffees took the lead in the 56th minute when Beckford skipped through the Preston defence to score.
Louis Saha made it two minutes later when Phil Neville threaded a ball through and the former Manchester United striker gave the keeper no chance with a fierce shot.
On the 70th Minute former Leeds United man Beckford slid in his second of the afternoon after ghosting in at the back post.
Jack Rodwell also went close for the dominant Merseysiders and Saha hit the woodwork.
Preston struggled to make an impact, their only action of note being Adam Barton's two efforts on goal in the first half.
Everton: Turner, Hibbert, Baines, Jagielka, Bilyaletdinou, Saha, Arteta, Rodwell, Distin, Guay, Neville.
Subs: Vaughan (72), Coleman (45), Beckford (45), Silva (80), Baxter (72), Wallace (80).
