Manchester United and Chelsea target David De Gea has opened talks with Atletico Madrid on an improved contract to keep him at the club, according to reports from Spain.

De Gea, 19, emerged last season as the first choice goalkeeper for the Vicente Calderon outfit after starting the campaign well down the pecking order, and his meteoric rise was capped with Europa Leageu success and a place in Spain's provisional World Cup squad.

This form alerted teams from across Europe to the youngster's ability, and the Premier League pair are reportedly interested in a £25 million swoop for his signature.

Madrid have resolved to keep the player, however, and want to boost his buyout clause and wages to reflect his new status.
