Default Blues stars in talks to pay staff wages

Pompey's players are exploring the possibility of paying the wages of training ground staff.
The News understands a group of Blues first-team stars are to meet to see what they can do to help some of those who lost their jobs at the club this week.

Groundsman Tug Wilson and assistant kitman Clarke Denford were two of the 85 people made redundant on Wednesday.

They are among a host of staff including members of the medical, video analysis, ground maintenance, kit and media teams who work regularly at the club's Eastleigh base to lose their jobs.

David James had been turned down when offering to pay wages of staff because it did not comply with administration procedure.

Talks are at a very tentative stage and the players would want assurances the money would be used to keep staff in place and not service debt.

The players are keen to maintain some semblance of normality at the club's training base ahead of next month's FA Cup semi-final with either Spurs or Fulham.
