Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has heaped praise on Luke Varney after he scored in the club's 2-2 with Fulham on Saturday.

The striker only joined the Seasider’s on a season-long loan deal from Championship club Derby County on Friday and scored his first Premier League goal for the club at the new look Bloomfield Road.

Fulham had taken the lead through Bobby Zamora before an own goal by John Pantsil saw Blackpool draw level. Then Varney produced a moment of magic to pull the Premier League newcomers in front but Dickson Etuhu scored three minutes from time to rescue a point for the Cottagers.

"Luke has got pace and his game suits the way I want to play. It looked like he had been with us all his life," Holloway said after the game.

"If you realise he has just walked into the building, how hard is my job? It is not easy. Players go here and there. They carry their kitbags. Sometimes it suits them, sometimes it doesn't.

"Hopefully he will have a wonderful relationship with us and keep doing what he did today.

"That goal I am absolutely delighted with. It was some of the best football any team of mine has ever produced. Then we lose the ball easily and they equalise, so we have some harsh lessons to learn."

The Blackpool boss was also delighted with how his team responded to their 6-0 defeat against Arsenal last week.

"It is a fantastic day for the club. What an achievement to get this game on. We have got to pinch ourselves we are at this level. I felt defensively we were much better today," he continued.

"Well done to everyone. Fulham are a fantastic side and Bobby Zamora looks a proper handful now. He is very clever and very difficult to mark. I was pretty happy when he went off. He looks a proper player.

"We scored two goals against Fulham. I watched Manchester United do that. If you had told me that after the Arsenal match I would have taken that."
