Default Allardyce issues Pedersen ultimatum

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has demanded Morten Gamst Pedersen make a decision on his future in the next few days after becoming "sick" of the ongoing contract impasse.

Pedersen is out of contract in a few weeks and has so far stalled on signing a deal that has been on the table for some time, much to Allardyce's frustration.

With just eight days remaining until the season ends next Sunday, Allardyce has had enough, although has no confidence the 28-year-old will stay at Ewood Park anyway.

Asked whether he felt the Norway midfielder would be at the club next season, Allardyce sternly said: "No."

Questioned next as to whether Pedersen had turned down the new deal offered to him, he replied: "I don't know."

He added: "I'm sick of it. Speak to the chairman. It's his baby, not mine. He deals with the finances.

"To be honest, they'll sort it out between them, and if he makes a decision then I'll find out.

"Hopefully it will be the right decision, but we're going to need one, and in the next few days because it can't keep lingering on and on and on."

Whether Pedersen stays or goes will have an impact on Allardyce's transfer plans for the summer because as it stands he feels he only needs a further two players to compliment his squad.

One of those is Portsmouth's on-loan Lens striker Aruna Dindane, with negotiations still ongoing, although there is speculation Celtic have joined the chase for his signature.

"It will be the size of the budget in the end that will determine things, but we are looking, we have targeted players and said these are the ones we're looking to bring in," added Allardyce.

"If we kept the squad we have now, I envisage two players would be the absolute maximum we would need for next season.

"It would be nice to be thinking along those lines. For me, it would be the fewest number of players I've ever needed over the summer.

"It makes a nice change instead of scraping around the world for players you need to bring in because you know your squad is too light.

"Having and keeping a settled squad together is very important to us, and with the emergence of the young players it means we don't have to search so much in the summer.

"But then if Morten does go, it may mean we need three players instead of two."

If Pedersen opts not to stay with Blackburn, Monday's game against Arsenal at Ewood Park could effectively be his swansong on home soil after six years with the club.

Allardyce could have four players back in contention for the visit of the Gunners as Chris Samba and Brett Emerton will be fit after recently struggling with groin and hamstring problems respectively.

El Hadji Diouf and Vince Grella are also available after missing last weekend's draw at Wolves with tonsilitis and a stomach bug respectively.
