Motivation not a problem for Rovers
Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba claims that his teammates are fired up for this Sunday’s Lancashire derby against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Despite appearing to be clear of relegation following their win against Birmingham in midweek, Rovers will still find plenty of motivation for such a passionately contested local derby, according to Samba.
“We won’t be less motivated than them for the game,” he told the Lancashire Telegrapgh.
“Obviously it will be more difficult for them because they have to get a result.
“But’s that not that bad because they will really go forward and create a lot of space, so we will just try to play on the counter attack and get something.
“Of course Burnley are fighting relegation, but as rivals we won’t help them.
“We’re going to be there if possible to take three points and keep them where they are.
Samba, who will turn 26 on the day of the match is aware of the importance of the derby to the local fans.
“The game is a special one for us and for the fans, so I want to go and give a good performance there,” he added.
Burnley currently sit 18th in the Premier League table and are desperate for points to aid their relegation battle. Meanwhile Sam Allardyce’s men have moved up to 11th, level on points with tenth placed Fulham.
