Birmingham City attempt to replace Christian Benitez with Fulham striker Bobby Zamora
Birmingham City are reportedly lining up a bid for in form Fulham hitman Bobby Zamora.
The Midlands club are said to have had a bid rejected by Fulham according to The Mirror yesterday.
The Blues are thought to be searching for a replacement for Christian Benitez who is set to return to Mexican side Santos Laguna after a season long loan.
St Andrew’s boss Alex McLeish was thought to be keen on the Ecuador international but the £7 million asking price was considered to high.
'We did have an agreement that the previous board put in place,” McLeish told the Birmingham Mail.
“Chucho [Benitez] did very well for us. I am sorry to lose him but the deal was just too rich for us,”
“My task now is to find someone who can do a better job. I have got to try and find a player who can be even better than Chucho.”
Zamora is thought to be the striker the Scotsman is eyeing up. Whether or not the £8 million-rated forward would swap London for the midlands remains to be seen.
